Shimano CUES FC-U6040-1 crankset

With its durable yet lightweight construction and an excellent chain retention, the FC-U6040 crank from the Shimano CUES series ensures reliable performance even on long gravel adventures. In addition and thanks to the chainring options of 40 or 42 teeth, it also guarantees a smooth pedal stroke when riding off-road sections.

While the special Dynamic Chain Engagement+ tooth design is responsible for the improved chain guidance, it is the HollowTech II manufacturing technique that makes it possible to reduce the weight of the crank arms. At the same time, the hollow forging process increases rigidity, which results in a more efficient power transmission.

 

HOLLOWTECH II | The guiding principle of Shimano’s Hollowtech II technology is the perfect balance between stiffness, stability, weight and rotational efficiency. The goal was to produce a crank that minimises the effort required for the drive and enables more efficient power transmission. An exclusive forging process allows the production of extremely light crank arms that nevertheless guarantee maximum stiffness. The fixed connection of the right arm to the axle of the bottom bracket and its external bearing also serve an optimum relationship between stiffness and low weight.

Dynamic Chain Engagement+ | The special tooth profile for chainrings of 1-speed drivetrains noticeably improves chain retention, which also makes pedaling easier in rough terrain and offers particular advantages in the MTB application areas of Cross County, Enduro and Trail. The optimized chain guidance also reduces abrasion and wear, regardless of the gear selected.
